New in the theatre; AMORNext month starts the new musical program of musica Extrema: Amor.
The book by the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, 'About the devil and other loves', inspired Musica Extrema to make a music program. The gripping story of the untouchable and beautiful Sierva María is about romance, drama and love. In Amor this story is told and musically reinforced by the idiosyncratic ensemble Musica Extrema. U will be taken by a dramatic story and by the most beautiful South American melodies and songs. Amor is Musica Extrema's ninth theatre programme. Since the set up in 2003, the group has undergone a development which has been in progress since its least remarkable. The orchestra has played on practically all major and small concert venues in the Netherlands, but also abroad they have already been introduced to this ensemble several times. From September Amor can be seen throughout the country.
Corona UpdateDear friends!

The Matthew Passion, soon to be seen in the Netherlands! In the period before Easter, Musica Extrema will be touring The Netherlands with a very special program: our own version of Western Europe’s biggest classical masterpiece of all time, the St Matthew Passion. Especially for this program, Musica Extrema will collaborate with two big names, the great singer Sharon Kips (famous from the TV program X Factor) and the fameous Dutch actor Jan Rot.
The St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach tells the story of the last days of Christ. Theatre-maker Jan Rot has a contemporary and accessible dutch translation of this story in which the corals can be sung in Dutch by the public. The melodies of the classic Mattheus passion are unchanged and in a contemporary Latin-American context. Café du monde is back in the theatersCafé du monde returns to the theatres in February and March. After the unprecedented success of last season, Musica Extrema and Joke Bruijs will be touring in several theatres throughout the country.
This music programme in which Joke Bruijs treats you in her own humorous and unique way to the gems that the song of life has brought to life. Especially for this programme she has joined forces with the versatile ensemble Música Extrema. Together they selected the most beautiful chansons, copla's, schlagers, standards, fado's and smartlappen that the Netherlands, Italy, France, Romania and many other countries have brought to the stage. A fantastic and varied performance full of nostalgia. 'PARTITA', starting November in the theatres!Musica Extrema, The International DanceTheatre, and De Zee Theater productions present:
PARTITA ‘Wenn ich einmal soll scheiden, so scheide nicht von mir!’ J.S. Bach A virtuoso conversation between two dancers, a quirky view of Johann Sebastian Bach, about letting go but not wanting to be let go. The music of this great master is perhaps the greatest challenge for any musician. His partitas and inventions are seen by many as the pearls of his inexhaustible oeuvre and are the lead of this show. The three musicians of the ensemble Música Extrema and dancers Monik and Dante Dominguez dared to take Bach's partitas and inventions as their point of departure and take their own artistic path. Or did Bach's timelessness and genius ultimately keep them in their grip? Dance: Monik Dominguez, Dante Dominguez Orchestra: Musica Extrema: Tanya Schaap - violin, Marc Bischoff - piano, Sandor Kem, bass Supervision: Desirée Rebel "Creativity is more than just being different. Anybody can play weird; that's easy. What's hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity. Charles Mingus Tin Pan Alley ParadeIn the big cities during the Roaring Twenties and especially in New York, the musical life burst into full force. Hundreds or thousands of composers and musicians composed day in, day out new melodies, songs, tunes, which have permanently changed the rest of the American and ultimately European music industry.
Tin Pan Alley is named after the neighbourhood where the new songs were played on pianos; these often unvoiced pianos sounded like tin pans were tumbled. Tin Pan Alley has become the cradle of modern music where cross-pollinating genial spirits draw richly from each other's worlds: Eastern European and Jewish music mingled with Italian music and jazz music, influences from gypsy music from the Balkans met lovely English love songs. An unprecedented development got started and eventually led to the music of today. The music and dance in the 1920s reflected the exuberance and vibrancy of the urban influence. They were seized by the unusual and the free-spirited dances. With influences from Afro-American culture there were all kinds of variations in ragtime dance, the shimmy, the charleston, black bottom and with even more variations in the animal dances (including the grizzly bear dance, the turkey trot). The dances got their place in the vaudeville shows and musicals, think of Josephine Baker who introduced bold new styles but also Isadora Duncan and Ruth. Saint Dennis. Saint Dennis in particular was a modern dance pioneer who was part of this period with her expressionistic and experimental technique. This technique developed later in the glory days of American Social Dancing in the dancehalls (lindy hop, swing). In short, a renaissance after the First World War. Not only fertile soil on which things developed in an innovative way, but also a fertile soil on which artistically generous use of each other's work was made, as a reaction and as a counter reaction. The multicultural city life translated into art. With this performance Musica Extrema and the International Dance Theater want to pay tribute to the daredevils, the innovators, the madmen, the seekers, the changers, the wonder and the curiosity. Tin Pan Alley is the second co-production of Musica Extrema and the International Dance Theater. A look inside the church...MISSA, a new musical performance in 11 parts about the history of Holland.
